kW to hp formula

1 kW = 1.34102 hp 1 hp = 0.745700 kW 1 kW = 1.35962 PS (metric) 1 PS = 0.735499 kW

In the US and UK, car power is quoted in horsepower (hp). European spec sheets use kW and often PS — the metric horsepower, about 1.4% smaller than a mechanical horsepower. That is why a "150 PS" car is about 148 hp.

Quick table

  • 75 kW = 100.6 hp = 102 PS
  • 100 kW = 134.1 hp = 136 PS
  • 150 kW = 201.2 hp = 204 PS
  • 200 kW = 268.2 hp = 272 PS
  • 300 kW = 402.3 hp = 408 PS

Electric cars

EV makers usually quote power in kW. A 250 kW electric motor is about 335 hp. Compare running costs with the EV charging cost calculator.
